About us

What do we do?

“We meet up in a different place in the countryside each week to drink coffee and eat cake,” joked one member to a group of tourists passing by.   They didn’t know whether to believe him or not.

We do have a tea-break each session.  Before and after, we work on tasks which vary according to the season.

In winter we mostly cut back (small) trees growing in the wrong place.  In other places, we plant new trees.

In summer, we look after the trees planted during the winter, keep public footpaths clear, mend fences, re-hang gates, etc.  Sometimes we get the chance to work with livestock: moving sheep, or cutting their toenails.

Whatever the task, we give full training and support – no previous experience needed.

When and where?

Tuesday mornings, 10 am – 1 pm, year round, whatever the weather (usually).  Sites all over South Oxfordshire: see Worksites for more.

Can’t do a Tuesday?

There are other Green Gyms nearby (Abingdon, Sonning Common).  They run sessions on different days, including Saturdays.

There are about 15 of us altogether.  Age range: toddler to 70+

Under 16s: please remember to bring an adult with you.  (Don’t worry, it doesn’t have to be your mom!)
